Care measures the level of compassion or concern for individual people, animals or other living things that is inherent in the nature of the job, eg nurse, welfare worker, cleric, veterinary surgeon, zoo keeper. This factor applies to jobs that provide emotional or compassionate support directly on a personal basis, or are responsible for facilitating such support. Positions which deal directly with circumstances relating to the emotional wellbeing of individuals such as undertakers, some law enforcement positions, and those positions primarily responsible for engendering a caring culture in an organisation are included. (Compassion and understanding required by a job as part of internal specialist human resources management are measured by the Human Resources Management factor and the interpersonal skills factor, Speaking and Listening skills.)
Care, compassion and understanding may be required within the responsibilities of the position to deal with the management of issues affecting groups, the public or customers (eg Customer Care policies, Health and Safety, Counselling); these are assessed and allowed for as part of Communication, Research, and Impact Factors.
