2.2.2 Computer / IT

 
This factor measures the level of computer, internet, information technology systems and related skills and knowledge required by the position to carry the role competently.

Description

LOW The position does not require the use of computers or similar technology or internet processes and systems

USE Read information off a computer screen, or use a simple menu to look up information.

INPUT Enter or edit data through a menu system. Use printers, operate e-mail and basic use of the internet for searching specified information and carrying out administrative tasks.

OFFICE Use the internet, spreadsheets, presentation software, and similar proprietary software; perform word processing functions and file management procedures (copy, move, delete, save).  Applies to most office and professional and management positions.

ADVANCED FUNCTIONS Required to regularly perform advanced word processing functions, or set up and use complex spreadsheets (for example writing / recording macros) or databases or similar level software, or produce desktop published material, or search specialised databases for information such as library systems and GIS; operate accounting software. Also applies to senior professional and management roles which use advanced systems to create significant reports and analysis to guide key decisions.

ADVANCED SOFTWARE Use advanced software packages, eg computer aided drafting, statistical packages, diagnostic software, web page building software; set up and use more complex databases.  Some elementary coding skills related to the use of the software packages are typically required. May be the entry level for an IT professional (ie requiring tertiary IT qualifications)

IT PROFESSIONAL The position requires computer /IT skills commensurate with an information systems professional to a level where hardware, networks, databases and customised systems can be evaluated and/or developed, implemented and maintained.  Included is the creation of major computer animated programs or presentations, and creation of large-scale interactive websites or programs for customer use, and development of AI systems to achieve corporate goals.  (Positions creating computer-animated software or programs are also assessed a level in the Artistic Skill factor).

ADVANCED IT PROFESSIONAL Designs or develops major global or leading-edge or novel hardware and software such as operating, switching and communications systems.
